Secretary Hegseth had announced that the execution of the Fort Hood shooter would be broadcast live.
President Donald Trump announced that the firing squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter will not be live-streamed. Public outcry, particularly from Catholic officials, followed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s earlier statement that it would be broadcast live.
President Trump said the shooter, “a former U.S. Army Major turned traitor, is a very bad and evil man, who killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier, who died, along with her unborn son, and injured, very seriously, 32 more innocent people.“
“I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists,“ President Trump stated, “but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device.“
The president concluded, “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed. That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims, if they so choose. They deserve to witness JUSTICE!“
Vice President JD Vance responded, when asked for his opinion on the execution as a Catholic, “I try to remind people is, look, this is a guy who committed, in my view, the worst terrorist attack on American soil outside of 9/11, the people that he was meant to treat, the Army soldiers that he was meant to treat for mental illness and other problems, he took them at their most vulnerable and gunned down these people where they lived.”
The vice president stated, “So whatever the controversy is about the method of the execution, I hope that people don’t forget that this is a guy who brutally murdered a lot of innocent people.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to prevent terrorism and hold perpetrators accountable.
- For wisdom for Vice President Vance as he lives out his faith in his elected office.
- For Secretary Hegseth as he considers the morale of the U.S. military and methods to deter domestic terrorists.
